The Museum of Czech Literature (PNP) fills the role of a museum in the terms of Section 10 (6) of act No. 122/2000 Coll., on the protection of museum collections and on the amendment of certain other acts, as amended.

The PNP was established to acquire, gather, permanently safekeep, catalogue, scientifically process, and make available museum collections, specifically, collections of material that documents the development of literature and literary culture in the historical Czech lands, including documents on the life, work, and legacy of important figures of Czech literature and literary culture from the 18th century until present, and a collection of works of visual art.

The PNP has been accumulating its collection based on scientific findings and its own concept of collection-building activities, and manages the same under act No. 122/2000 Coll. The PNP also pursues other activities as ensue from its foundation charter.
